Firefox buttons

This is a test of something that seems a little screwed up. On both of my work machines, I mostly use Chrome (w/ the IE tab extension) for work related stuff. And I have Firefox on my work laptop setup to go through a SSH tunnel to home for not-so-work related stuff. Also, I have recently added ‘Download Firefox’ buttons on my site via Firefox Affiliates. I could have just as easily created the buttons myself but I didn’t. Anyway, after I placed the buttons on my Drupal sites and StatusNet site, I checked things out via the different browsers on my work machines. I noticed right away that they didn’t show at all in Chrome. Worked fine in Firefox and IE just not Chrome, even after I cleared the cache (browser level and at the site level) they still didn’t show. What the fuck? The button code is basic html, an anchor and an image, no javascript, css, or anything else. In the end, I used wget to grab the button image and pointed things to use the image sitting on my server. Hey, now it actually shows. Again, WTF?

Anyway, this post is now here so I can paste the code in and test things on various machines. I also haven’t found anything on the interwebs about others seeing this so, most likely, it’s something to do with my work machines and not some other crap. Also, if any of you readers (wait, people actually read the crap I write?)

Here are a few more buttons…
button one:
Download: Fast, Fun, Awesome

button two:
Upgrade

button three:
Plugin Checker

button four:
Download Aurora

button five:
Download Beta

If any of the above five buttons don’t show in Chrome (or any other browser) I’d like to hear about it. As I stated, it’s most likely an issue with my shitty windows work machines but, I’d like to actually find out.

[Edit]
Ok, after the initial post, I see that the buttons don’t even initially work in Firefox. They do show in IE, and they don’t in Chrome. More playing (and some research) will ensue…

  • IE (two machines) Yes
  • Chrome (two windows machines) No
  • Firefox (windows) One Yes, one No
  • Android Default (ICS and Gingerbread) Yes
  • Android Firefox Aurora (ICS and Gingerbread) Yes
  • more to come…

  1. I also tried to add one of these buttons on my WordPress weblog a month ago. In my case, it just didn’t appear, anywhere. It made me curious (you said it : only basic lines of HTML) but I forgot about it.

One more thing : I still don’t see them right now.
