Quick !Music Review - Bon Iver, Bon Iver

This is one of those times where the ol’ saying ‘You can’t judge a book by it’s cover’ is proven untrue. The artwork on the new Bon Iver album, Bon Iver is beautiful, serene and looks to be a masterpiece. The music contained within the album is beautiful, serene and is a masterpiece.

Bon Iver Album cover

As most Bon Iver fans are, I’ve been a huge fan ever since I first heard For Emma, Forever Ago years ago. I’ve also been patiently waiting for another full album release since then. And with great relief, the new album was released this past June. This album is not the stripped down, singer/guitar style that was For Emma…, now we have a full band with many instruments. The song writing seems more adventurous yet it is still full of the same depth of emotion.

Current favorite tracks are ‘Perth’, ‘Michicant’ and ‘Calgary’. The guitar sound on ‘Perth’ is amazing, thick with chorus. The vocal harmonies on ‘Michicant’ are absolutely angelic. And ‘Calgary’ has a dynamic range that is quite astonishing.
Watch the video for ‘Calgary’.

My Sennheiser’s give this album: 5/5

On a semi-related note:

My brother (who plays guitar for Nathaniel Rateliff) had sent me this signed album some time back:

Blood Bank Autographed Album

I think I need to get this new album on vinyl to hang on the wall next to it.
